ABOUT
Jacob & Jessica Sedmak established Sedmak Custom Contacting LLC originally in Northwestern Pennsylvania in 2009 with the main focus being finish carpentry and fabricating custom furniture. As the Sedmak family made their way to upstate New York with years of experience in cabinet making and custom marine carpentry things slowly moved into the sawmill business. That shift was fed by the desire to have a steady supply of materials to work with. Little by little things transitioned into owning and operating a sawmill. The high demand for sawyers was quickly realized, which now is a large part of our business activities. Being one of the few mobile sawmilling services in the Hudson Valley, New York area, SCC attributes their reputation to the lasting customer relationships we have developed throughout the years. It is believed that all customers deserve the highest level of service, and SCC is committed to providing just that. Supplying each customer with high quality material at the end of each job is the goal. Get in touch today to learn more.

HELP CENTER
HOW MANY LOGS CAN BE MILLED IN ONE DAY?
The answer very much depends how on what the logs are being milled into. Live edge slabs are fairly quick compared to milling 1” boards. The more cuts that are made usually means more time will be spent. For highly custom milling with reclaimed materials or large beams 5-10 logs / day. If logs are staged properly and we are set up for production milling, 20-40 logs could be milled in one day.
DO I NEED TO BE PRESENT DURING THE MILLING PROCESS?
No. Our goal is to have all the milling details planned out before each project is started. There is no objection if you desire to be present however.
HOW LONG DO I NEED TO LET MY FRESHLY MILLED WOOD SIT BEFORE I USE IT?
The rough average for air drying wood is one year for each 1” of thickness. This can sometimes change however based on the species of wood, how long logs were stored before being milled, sizes logs are milled into, and the location wood is stacked for air drying. Wood may air dry quicker if stickered stacks are covered on the top only, leaving the sides and ends open for air flow through stack.
WHAT IS STICKER STACKING OR STICKERING?
Sticker stacking or stickering is the stacking of the green lumber boards or slabs with 1”x1” wooden spacers in between the layers of wood. The stickers should be aligned vertically and should be separated by approximately 12” - 36” depending on material thickness.
